Her water broke during gym class.
Okay, it wasn't exactly gym class for Juno, sitting on the bleachers doing her homework while the rest of her class played volleyball. She was okay with that, she'd always hated volleyball. Most team sports. Actually, just most sports. She wasn't a sporty kid and she was okay with that.
But there she was, writing a report on the history of a town that wasn't even real in her mind with a backache and cramping she's had for days. It's annoying and frustrating, but it's not as bad as the wet feeling she gets suddenly. Juno's embarrassed, thinking she's wet herself until she realises that it's way more than her bladder.
"God-damn," she shouts, trying to shoot to her feet. Only she can't, barely able to push up from the bench when a wave of pain strikes, blossoming deep within her spine. That's when it hits her, that these pains aren't just the usual aches or cramps ramped up to eleven. These were contractions.
"Holy mother of fuck," she mutters, ignoring Miss Williams shushing her and telling her to mind herself and her language. Juno pulls out her phone, dialing Katie with one hand as she shouts, "I'm having a freaking baby."
Her phone ringing she gets voice mail, leaving a message for Katie to get to the hospital, leaving the same for Chris. By the time she's done there are ambulance attendants rushing in with a stretcher and Juno looks up in a panic. "Dudes - seriously, I do not need that!"
She has little choice, strapped on to a stretcher, blood pressure being taken even as she's moved into the ambulance. This is all just weird and surreal and dammit it hurts more than she ever thought possible.
It's too soon she thinks, even though she's wanted nothing more than to get this kid out of her. Now she just wants it to be over, she wants the pain to stop more than anything else.
"When can I have the damn drugs?"
